BA Drama

  • Objectives You will be encouraged to acquire and apply the necessary skills to create meaningful dramatic events within a range of educational and community settings. The focus throughout is on practical work ranging from ‘page-to-stage’ projects performed in traditional performance contexts (including Plymouth’s professional small scale venue, the Barbican Theatre) to unconventional settings, such as Schools and Community Centres and unusual contexts, such as the streets of Plymouth City Centre and even a wind-swept Tor on Dartmoor!
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements: Our typical minimum entry requirements for applicants with A levels/AS levels/BTEC is 220 points. Applications from students with non-traditional qualifications are welcome.
  • Academic title BA Drama

    Programme

    1st year overview

    During the first year you will have the opportunity to develop and extend your own understanding of the nature of drama, its origins, its role and purpose in human culture and the circle of social life. At the end of your first year you should have developed your ideas with regard to planning an appropriate route through the course at Intermediate and Honours Levels: a route which provides the opportunity to develop individual interests, aptitudes and skills.

    2nd year overview

    At both Intermediate (Year two) and Honours (Year three) Levels the programme develops three overlapping strands:

        * Drama and Community
        * Drama and Life Long Learning
        * Drama Practitioner Skills and Theatre Performance Skills

    You are provided with opportunities to work in specific community contexts under professional supervision.

    3rd year overview

    You are expected to have assumed responsibility for the development of your own practice. This is reflected in the nature of the practical work, which is now largely self directed, and the more in-depth academic demands made in written work in evaluation, formal essay writing or the completion of a dissertation.
