Course description
BA Drama Studies
Programme
Joint honours Drama Studies is offered with Arts Management, Creative Writing, Dance, Education, English or Media.
The programme approaches the study of drama both theoretically and practically, and ensures a steady development of academic and performance-based skills. Subjects suc as performance practice, devising, drama theory, writing for performance, staging Shakespeare and popular theatre are offered.
Year One introduces some of the key areas of Drama Studies, acting, scripting and directing, and the study of drama in its historical and cultural contexts. More specialised options are available year two, including modules on devising, the carnivalesque and contemporary theatre. Modules at year three encourage the development of individual interests through performance and research projects and negotiated study options. There are also opportunities to study live art, key practitioners and dramatists, and writing for performance, and to work with professional practitioners.
Links with local and national theatre companies present possibilities to develop performance work beyond the curriculum.
