    Programme

    This an employer-based programme for probation trainees in the Midlands and East of England. It is delivered by De Montfort University in collaboration with the appropriate probation and development training consortia. The programme is designed to meet the requirements of the Regulatory Framework for the Diploma in Probation Studies (1998).

    The Degree provides a route for probation trainees to gain their Diploma in Probation Studies and to be accredited to NVQ Four. Part One consists of four academic modules in Foundation Skills and Methods, Values and Ethics, Orientation to the Criminal Justice System and People and Organisation in Society. In addition, there are four practice-based modules grouped around principles of effective practice and offender management.

    Part Two consists of eight academic modules linked to accreditation to NVQ Level Four in Community Justice. The academic modules contribute to the knowledge requirements for the NVQ: The Legal and Policy Framework, Penal Policy and the Probation Service, Assessing and Addressing Offending Behaviour, Risk Assessment, Risk Management and Research (Developing Effective Practice), Criminological Perspectives on Probation, Substance Use, and Mental Health and Professional Development within the Organisational Context.
