BA Business Studies

  • Objectives The BA(Hons) Business Studies - the most popular programme in the Faculty - will provide you with a comprehensive business education, in which you have the opportunity to analyse and evaluate business organisations and to understand the way in which they operate. Set against a background of the environment in which businesses operate, you will identify problems, analyse situations, and evaluate alternative solutions.

    Your first year of study will provide a general business foundation. You will study a range of subjects such as: Global Business Context, Management and Organisational Behaviour, Business Information Technology Management, Business Statistics and Decision Making, Understanding Financial Information, and The Political Economy of Work.

    During your second year you will build on this knowledge and study subjects such as; Human Resource Management, Managing Finance, Marketing, Operations and Business Systems Management, and International Business Analysis.

    You will also select one optional module from an extensive list, giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge in an area of business that is of particular interest to you, for example Economic Integration in Europe, Tourism Business Applications, Entrepreneurship and Small Business etc.

    In the final year your programme has been designed to integrate the academic knowledge gained in the first two years of study to enable you to gain a deep understanding of the inter-disciplinary nature of business. You will study modules in Organisation Analysis, and Strategic Management and will complement this with a number of optional modules from an extensive list, for example Managing Change, Organisational Leadership, Project Management, enabling you to continue your interest in specific business topics.

    The modules shown here are merely to give you an idea of what you may study and they might change from year to year, reflecting changes in business practice and changing student interests. Before you start an undergraduate degree at Bristol Business School you will be sent comprehensive information explaining which modules you must study, and in subsequent years you will be sent information about which optional modules you may consider.
