  • Objectives The course provides a stimulating opportunity for study and skills development in marketing communications. You will learn how advertising has developed and how it integrates into the modern relationship-led interactive communications culture. It traces the expansion of new media and the challenges of contemporary communications management.
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements Normally 260 points which must include two 6-unit awards or one 12-unit award and would usually expect GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above

  • Course description Course Structure

    The first and second years cover the principles and concepts of advertising and explore the opportunities presented by multimedia and the internet.

    The third year provides an opportunity to undertake a year long placement in a business environment and gain practical skills that will be an added advantage when you embark on your graduate career. This is highly valued by both students and employers and helps students achieve better results in their final year. It also provides valuable experience in an advertising or communications environment.

    The final year provides the flexibility for you to follow particular areas of interest including events management and marketing or advanced consumer behaviour. You can choose between a 20-credit marketing project or a 40-credit dissertation.
    Career Opportunities

    Our graduates have good career prospects and over 90% find jobs in a field of their choice within six months of graduating. Typical first destination positions include - advertising account handler, public relations executive, direct marketing executive, marketing communications manager and events manager.

    Professional Body Accreditation

    The degree provides some exemption from nationally recognised professional awards offered by the Institute of Direct Marketing (IDM) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). The IDM regularly sponsors a national competition and our final year students have won some top awards: first prize for a project for Orange, first prize for a campaign for

    Volkswagen and both first and second prizes for a scheme for BMW. Two of the BMW prize winners later took jobs related to the company - Stuart manages the BMW loyalty card scheme and Richard works for their advertising agency.
