Aston University Diploma in Professional TESOL Studies (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Entry requirementsApplicants should normally have a first Degree (any subject) and at least 2 years’ full-time teaching experience. Participants whose first language is not English must also have an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or TOEFL 600 (250 computer-based, at least 100 Internet-based, with a minimum banding of 20 for Writing, Listening and Reading, and 22 for Speaking), or equivalent.

Course descriptionThe programme enables participants to acquire a deeper understanding of both the theory and practice of teaching English as a foreign language, and to engage in educational action research as members of the TESOL discourse community.
Outline of programme
Three core modules:
* Theories and Methods in ELT
* Practical Approaches to Teaching and Learning
* Contemporary Issues in TESOL.
Assessment
Modules are assessed by a combination of coursework, written assignments and teaching performance.
Career opportunities
The programme will boost participants’ teaching career. Successful completion of the course will gain 40 credits towards the School’s suite of MSc programmes in Teaching English.
