Art and Design (Interdisciplinary) BA(Hons)

  • Objectives This programme provides quality, excellence and continuity and offers you the chance to realise your academic ambitions in an environment which will support your needs. At the heart of this course lies our commitment and desire to nurture and develop your creative potential, explore contemporary issues in an art and design context and further your understanding of your own visual language.
  • Entry requirements Requirements for this course are normally one of the following: Successful completion of a Foundation course in Art and Design A minimum of 240 points gained in A levels including two 6-unit (A2) Awards A minimum of 200 points gained in Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education Double Awards (AVCE). An EdExcel/BTEC National Diploma, with merits in a relevant subject. In addition to the above, strong emphasis will be placed on the quality of your portfolio and a satisfactory interview. Other suitable experience or qualifications will be considered.

    Year 1

    Core modules:

    Visual and Material Culture
    Introduction to Inter-disciplinary Practice

    Optional modules include:

    Painting
    Print-making
    Sculpture
    Graphic Design
    Photography and Digital Imaging
    Ceramics and Glass
    Surface Embellishment
    Jewellery and Fine Metal

    Year 2

    The Studio Practice module presents an opportunity to specialise in your chosen area whilst encouraging you to continue to explore the broader arena of art and design.

    Year 3

    You are encouraged to develop a personal programme of study within the context of your inter-disciplinary practice. You will undertake a dissertation in an art and design area related to your personal programme of study. A professional practice module is aimed at helping you to gain employment and this will include either a short work placement or primary research in the workplace.
