The BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science has been developed to focus on providing opportunities to acquire technical and employability skills, knowledge and understanding in applied science practice. Learners gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment as a science technician or assistant practitioner, or to progress to other vocational qualifications such as BTEC Nationals in Applied Science. Opportunities are provided for learners to develop the skills and knowledge required to work in the applied science industry or in an organisation that uses science. Learners will gain an understanding of the role of the science technician, their relationship with the scientific community and their responsibilities towards the community and the environment. Personal Tutorial is supportive and friendly. private study and assistance with your assignments take place in this session as well as social and personal development
How is the course taught
The course is taught through practical investigation and demonstrations. The course will also include speakers from the science community.
Assessment
You are graded by continual assessment. This can be written assignments and practical investigations on which you will write your report. You will track your progress through the course and are in control of your final grade.
Course leads to BTEC National in Applied Sciences.
