A degree in a relevant subject area is also required, though Accreditation of Past Learning, Experiential Learning and Work Based Learning for students without a degree is also possible.

  • Course description COURSE INFORMATION

    The MA Advanced Practice programme forms part of the School's Postgraduate Studies (PGS) and has been designed to meet a variety of different needs and requirements of experienced practitioners. It is a part-time flexible programme over two to five years, or a full time programme over one year, and has three exit points: postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma and MA Advanced Practice. Also, individual modules can be selected for a shorter period of study that could enhance personal and professional development.

    Why study Advanced Practice?
    The MA Advanced Practice is intended primarily for those who are engaged and experienced in practice in health and social care settings working directly with service users, and first-line managers of those staff. The concept of the 'advanced practitioner' and critical, reflexive practice are central to the course and developed throughout. There are core and option modules both of which enable an examination of the professional's own practice and encourage exploration of topics that are relevant to that practice.

    COURSEWORK AND ASSESSMENT
    A range of learning and teaching approaches are used throughout the programme encompassing both classroom-based lectures and seminars and practice-based experiential work. Assessment methods include: essays, project proposals, reports, group and individual presentations and a dissertation.

    CAREERS
    The MA Advanced Practice programme aims to prepare students to work competently with uncertainty and change; understand and contribute actively to policy development; assess evidence and draw appropriately on research to inform and improve practice; and to take forward practice development to meet the challenges of service provision in the twenty-first century.
