Course descriptionGeneral information
The AAT was formed in 1980 and is sponsored by four UK Chartered Accountancy bodies. They are the world's largest dedicated professional body for qualified Accounting Technicians and people employed in a variety of accounting and financial roles.
The Association's qualification is appropriate for all finance and accounting staff undertaking financial and accounting duties, whether in industry and commerce or the public sector, or in the offices of practising accountants. It is a highly regarded qualification and the Association is growing rapidly.
There are three criteria for membership of the AAT: proven competence, a minimum period of approved work experience and evidence of suitability for membership and commitment to the Association.
The scheme is divided into 3 stages of competency: Foundation NVQ level 2, Intermediate NVQ level 3 and Technician NVQ level 4. This course is offered twice a year in September and February. The foundation stage is particularly relevant to people wishing to embark upon a career, those wishing to return to work or change career and who need to acquire a basic competency in book-keeping, business practice and basic accountancy.
