Introduction to 3D Studio Max - Course

  • Course description

Open up your world to the realms of three-dimensional modelling.

3D Studio Max is an industry standard three-dimensional modelling, animation and rendering application. It enables the user to create, render in a variety of materials, and animate virtually anything. It is widely used in engineering, product design, architecture and film.

This 10-week course is ideal for architects, interior designers, design professionals and those interested in animation. During this course you will be introduced to the basics of 3D Max, perfect for those who are new to this area, or those who wish to refresh their skills in 3D modelling and visualisation.

Starting with the basic layout of the programme, your tutor will teach you how to create objects using basic modifier tools and how to create models using editable poly modelling.

Your tutor will guide you through material creation and application, lighting of objects and environments, animation of items within the programme and how to ‘render off’ the finished product.

During the course you can explore the programme and experiment with different aspects allowing you to gain a foundation of knowledge that you can use in 3D Max and other 3D programs.

In the course of your studies you will learn about the following: Bone editing tools, fine adjustment tools, object properties, soft selection enhancements, modifier enhancements, symmetry modifier, vertex weld modifier, edit normal modifier, layers, materials and maps, ink and paint, translucent shader, lighting and advanced lighting override, animation, set key mode, track view changes, splines and IK changer, Boolean controller, gimbal rotation, auto tangent interpolation, global illumination, photometric and daylight lights, rendering to textures and exposure controls.

    Entry requirements:

You do not need 3D experience, but we expect you to have a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop or an alternative 2D paint programme.
