Course description
The pathway focuses on developing the major themes of Immunology and explores the effects, both personally and nationally, on the population. Students will be introduced to the basics of the immune system and its many and varied effects on the body in health and illness. The pathway is relevant to students with a specific interest or specialist role in treating clients with immunological disorders and also to a wider group of healthcare professionals with an interest in the immunological system and it’s effects in specific specialist areas such as tissue viability, renal disease, pregnancy and critical care. The pathway provides students with a unique opportunity to inform their work by drawing on specific relevant knowledge from a variety of related disciplines. The diversity of student’s professional experience further enhances the learning experience of participants and provides excellent networking opportunities. This programme supports the KSF agenda. This programme will enhance your career development by developing your skills, knowledge and understanding of Immunology and will prepare you to offer advanced knowledge and, in doing so, you will develop as a specialist and be better able to meet the needs of the people you are caring for, whether in hospital or at home. Specialist modules will develop knowledge and skills of immunology that can be applied to your own area of practice. Teaching methods
You will acquire the knowledge and develop the skills and insights required to meet these challenges by learning from specialist teaching staff, interaction with fellow students and from the panel of external lecturers all of whom have professional experience of their specialist area. The programme comprises 2 compulsory, 2 specialist and 13 optional modules at the University (also available as individual short courses).
Specialist modules are delivered as distance-learning modules, using specially developed web-based resources.
Credits in these modules may be accumulated for the award of a MSc or MSc Honours degree.
